Translation of Matthew’s after-show chat (From )Thank you for watching. That was my cover of “Phantom thief” by back number.This song was a theme song to the TV drama “Koi wa Deep ni”. The drama is a love story between a marine biologist and an owner of a hotel chain, I think. It’s got to do with the sea. On subject of the sea, I really don’t like the ocean. I’ll tell you why I don’t like it. When I was a little boy, my family took me to the beach. My father is rather mischievous. He threw me in the ocean like this (Matthew mimics his dad’s moves throwing the little boy left and right). I enjoyed being thrown by him. So, I was smiling with joy. But, after a several throws, my old man’s passion for mischief was ignited, I guess. He lifted me up like this, and threw me at the wave that was advancing towards us. Unbelievable, huh? (He chuckles.) I was advancing toward the wave which was closing in on me. I thought, “Oh, I’m so dead.” (He laughs.) The moment I crashed into the wave, I tilted my head a little, and I saw the side. I don’t know why but I did. It was amazing. You know, a wave would roll like this. I could see the rolled shape of the wave for a long distance. Straight down to the far end. It was the inside of a wave. I saw the inside of a wave! Isn’t that amazing? I was so surprised. I was in awe. “Wow! Great!” The moment I thought that, the wave engulfed me. I think I don’t like the sea since then. It was my Dad’s fault. (He laughs.) I do like outdoor activities.
