is perfect

This song’s pretty easy to miss, as it’s under the account of the artist “Sou,” who did many collaborations with Eve in the past. It’s sung by Sou, but written by Eve, and it shares too many similarities with his city-scape series to be ignored. It fits perfectly in between “Sister” and “Demon Dance Tokyo.” There’s a large time skip between the two songs, in which the MC goes from grief-stricken child to selfish teenager, and this song fills in that gap, making for a more seamless transition. His appearance here is more similar to that of “Sister” (), as he tries to live the way he used to. The world is no longer a rose-tinted explosion of color, but a uniform chocolate brown, more sickening and suffocating than sweet (

). He’s suppressed the memory of his sister, but the guilt remains. That guilt leaves him unable to connect with people the way he used to, out of fear of hurting or being hurt. The ‘book of spells’ from Nonsense Literature is referenced, as the MC keeps the deeper parts of his heart locked away (

Why I very love when Eve and Sou sing 'neenee', it is a very cute voice.

the chocolate town is the world, a broken place where morals do not matter, everyone eats each other and survival is all that matters. this is the setting that surrounds the main character. the song says things about “temptation” and “sweetness”, which relates to the concept that chocolate is an irresistible, sweet treat that we feel tempted to keep eating. the chocolate in this context represents our instincts, and how we feel tempted to survive, take advantage of others, rather than to rely on morals and ideals, and the protagonist is trying to free himself from these temptations, he wants a civilized society where people care for each other, an utopia. this becomes very noticeable by the middle of the song, when a book of spells is mentioned, i believe this represents wishes and expectations and in this case, the protagonist’s wish is to “do no harm”: he wants to be a good person, to help the others, and feel good about himself as he does that, but the inner temptation harming others for your own survival ends up taking over and he breaks the spell, culminating in his death around , when the protagonist actually bleeds (look at the sudden change of colors), and, right after, he “dies” for failing to meet his own expectations and is reborn as a spellcaster (notice the pointy hat) reinforcing the spell idea. i think what the song is trying to pass to us is that the protagonist has been struggling to stop with this behavior of his, but he never succeeds, because everyone and everything around him does the same thing, which end up being harmful to himself as he never gives up and tries to be good again and again. i think the song is trying to reflect a society that is broken, beyond hope, where insticts rule everything and nothing can be changed, but then the protagonist states: “although there is no longer any hope for this place | we’ll continue the speech that was told thousands of years ago until doomsday comes to pass.” and this makes me think that the protagonist acknowledges that he lives as a wild animal, and he’s destined to “eat” the others whether he likes it or not, but he never gives up his hope that some day, someone will change that and make a place where people care for each other.

now one last thing i noticed is how starting at the protagonist tries to ignore everything and live an illusion of happiness, but it doesn’t work: the girl he was dancing with eventually melts, and so does he. in the end, everything, it’s all chocolate, and it’s always gonna be chocolate (no matter what happens, the world stays the same).

I just discovered this song and fell in love instantly! Master songwriting by Eve and perfect execution by Sou. I especially love the parts at and

In the second half of the song, it’s revealed that after Ano Ko Secret, the MC successfully worked up the courage to talk to the blue haired girl, and a friendship formed (). As shown in later MVs, the two would play on the playground together, and we see here that even during this difficult time, the MC felt complete when he was with her. Even so, here she’s obscured in chocolate, showing that the MC is unable to see outside his own problems. Because of his selfishness, he’s unable to connect and they grow apart (

). Losing her hurts him, as he lost the only real friend he had left, so all that’s left to him is his suffocating city of chocolate (

). He tries to just keep enjoying his little comforts and joys (

. Something about using dotted eighth notes to slow down and brighten up an otherwise chaotic song is pure genius! I love it!!!
