In my opinion i think the masked man is an idealized version of how the main character sees himself. They have the same moves and its implied in multiple shots that the mask is a euphemism/symbol of sorts. The masked man isnt weighed down by insecurities (in this case they're actually literal physical beings) or clones of himself debating over what to do (probably symbolism for second guessing/doubts) and he's able to act as he wants, rather confident in comparison to our constantly conflicted main character. However its because of this reason he's somewhat of a mental crutch. It's very easy for all of us to let imaginary scenarios play out where we are a hero or better versions of ourselves instead of actually trying to improve. In fact, the MC even misses one of his chances to interact with the girl because he beats himself up over not being the masked man (shown in ) in the umbrella scene. He meets her and has the chance to interact, but instead points to the masked man. This implies that instead of interacting with her, he walked past her and let his ideal self deal greet her (aka only in his imagination). However she starts to show signs of reciprocating feelings for him and in this he starts to get a confidence boost. He finally realizes that letting the masked man interact with her won't do anything for him and starts to become the person he wants to be instead of leaving it to someone else. The masked man is relegated to a side character instead of being the star of the show that he was in the beginning.I also think that the rocket ship launching is symbolic of every time the main character attempts social interaction with the girl or just in general. It explains why its done so many times and also makes the moment when the MC poses with the launch a more triumphant moment because he's finally confident and ready to get out there.

it seems like his head expands and he's removing something that looks a lot like the mask of the head guy.Which is also why I think we see the mask guy kissing the girl at the same time. If that's how he gains the girl's love, is that truly love? Which leads to him rejecting the mask offer and leading the concerts with his own face. Of course, at , it is revealed that this was likely a dream and imo, is what I see as the MC coming to a decision while knocked out. He doesn't need to be the "ideal" man to get the girl. He doesn't need his mask to truly show his love. He just needs to be himself and things will work out. There's no point in regreting actions that are taken but it is worse to lose yourself so that a fake "you" gets to live in the light while your real self stays hidden in the crowd.
@fishofry its called "jibun kaigi", its said at the chorus part of the song, this song was based on that story, more explanations about the story at in the video (turn on captions), the story was pretty dark and had a pretty sad ending.
