Translation of Matthew’s after-show chat (From )Thank you for watching. That was my cover of Hebiringo by Three. Three was inspired by the animation series Neon Genesis Evangelion to write this song. The Eva series came to its conclusion with the latest movie release. You know, you read a lot of criticism on the web about the protagonist Shinji. They are so hard on Shinji, smashing him to the ground and all. Like, he’s so weak, he’s wimpy, what a bastard, can’t you just get on the Eva already, you’d read all sorts of complaints about him. But I’d like to defend him. I think Shinji can’t help it. Think about it. He was just an ordinary junior-high student. An ordinary child! But he was drafted all of a sudden, by this gigantic organization called Nerv. He was taken to Nerv, and then was forced to navigate this strange thing. Like this. And he was forced to fight horrific enemies like this, in bloody battles, getting crammed. And he would feel the pain as the Eva takes hits. I can understand why he would say (Matthew mimics Shinji’s voice, citing his famous lines) “I’m not gonna get on the Eva again. Not ever. Ayanami!!!” Of course, he would say that! Now, everyone, what do you feel about boys in Junior high? Or, I’d be interested to know which of the three heroines of Evangelion is your favorite. (Ayanami, Asuka, or Mari.
